Earlier this week I was one of the motoring writers invited by Honda to attend the launch of the new Civic Type R over in Bratislava, Slovakia. As you can tell by this “team photo” I had done, I got to spend some time on track with some pretty cool guys.
There is of course a lot to say about the new Type R but I’m not going to get into that right now, instead I’m here to share the footage from my laps around the Slovakia Ring. You’ll see our speed, G-forces, and even hear us speak as we were mic’d up inside the car.
So, I’ve got two videos to post into this little blog piece for now, the first being my laps around the Ring with my race instructor Norbert (great name!) who was a terrific bloke and really found me the speed with his clear and calm instruction. Second video is me as 3-time BTCC Champion Matt Neal’s passenger, with Gordon Shedden racing us close by!
Matt is a really great bloke, and as you’ll see from the footage a bloody good driver! He and Gordon Shedden (Team Honda Yuasa’s racing drivers) did some really cool stuff on track together and I hope the videos show how much fun it all was. It was a real privilege to spend time with these guys and witness first hand their ability at the wheel.
Here’s my 5 laps:
... and here are my laps with Matt Neal:
I hope you’ve enjoyed watching! If you’ve any questions at all let me know in the comments below, or tweet me @thejonnyedge. Cheers!
